Maxwell, IIMB explore expanding collaboration

Maxwell’s longtime partnership with the Indian
Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) continues to evolve as the
institutions explore new ways to collaborate and learn from each other. During his
visit, IIMB Director G. Raghuram underscored this significant relationship by
meeting with Maxwell Dean David Van Slyke and faculty heads of leading
departments and centers at Maxwell. The daylong event focused on current
activities and research at the Maxwell School and the potential for future
joint initiatives.
The IIMB is a leading graduate school of management in
Asia, with more than 1,200 students. Director Raghuram and IIMB Dean Gopal Naik
explored options for expanded collaboration related to research, training, and
teaching opportunities with Dean Van Slyke, Maxwell faculty and Executive
Education.
This year also marked a continuation of the historic
partnership between Maxwell and IIMB on the Post Graduate Program in Public
Policy and Management (PGPPM). Maxwell welcomed the PGPPM participants from the
government, private, and non-profit sectors.
More than 400 Indian government officials have participated in this Maxwell-IIMB
partnership program since 2002.
In addition to course work at Syracuse University, PGPPM
participants also took classes at Maxwell’s facilities in Washington, D.C., and
had the honor of attending a flag-raising ceremony marking India’s 73rd
Independence Day on August 15, at the Indian Embassy residence in Washington,
D.C.
Maxwell’s partnership with the government of India and
IIMB continues efforts civil servants and academics from both countries to
learn from each other. “This is an active partnership that works for all
parties,” Dan Nelson, international program manager, said.
Discussions about new initiatives reflect the global
nature of public administration. “The world is so interconnected now, and we
have these boundary-spanning problems that need to be solved by stakeholders
across countries,” Nelson said. “We need to learn how to listen so that we can
better learn from each other as we seek to identify solutions to our common
challenges.”
