Professor Estévez-Abe earned her Ph.D. in government from Harvard University in 1999. Her research interests include comparative political economy of advanced industrial societies, comparative welfare states and gender issues, with a primary interest in the comparative study of Italy, Japan, South Korea and Spain. These four countries share extremely low fertility rates and their societies are rapidly aging, and they
face the same challenge of radical adjustments in their welfare, labor market and corporate systems to cope with ever-aging populations.
