Bio

Sadam Hussain's research examines how religious soundscapes shape ethical life, memory and communal belonging. Focusing particularly on the sonic practices of Shi'a mourning rituals, his work explores how sound—through recitation, lamentation and collective rhythm—constitutes a living archive that orients communities toward shared histories and futures. He is broadly interested in the ethical dimensions of listening, the temporality of ritual sound, and the formation of public life through religious auditory practices in contexts shaped by histories of loss and endurance and futures of fear and hope.

Prior to his studies at Syracuse University, Sadam completed an advanced major in political science at Ashoka University in India, where his dissertation investigated judicio-constitutional mechanisms and their role in enabling state repression. He also served as a research associate at the Trivedi Centre for Political Data, working on empirical studies of political structures and democratic processes.
