Around two million Ukrainians have fled after Russia invaded and are being welcomed into new countries, a stark difference to how countries welcomed those who recently fled places like Afghanistan. "There are very striking differences in responses to the Ukrainian refugees compared to other refugee groups," says Lamis Abdelaaty, assistant professor of political science. "For instance, with the recent crisis in Afghanistan, we saw various European countries being far less welcoming towards Afghan refugees."
