Shannon Monnat, Lerner Chair for Public Health Promotion, took part in a New York Times panel asked to allocate a hypothetical budget to solve the opioid epidemic. Monnat explains why she would spend the most on community development, "This will attack the opioid epidemic, but it will also be beneficial for other pressing public health problems. I would include in this funding building opportunities/outlets for social cohesion, community engagement and civic participation."
