Reeher Shares Thoughts on DNC Making South Carolina the First Presidential Primary State

Weighing in on the Democratic National Committee's decision to make South Carolina the first White House primary state in 2028, Grant Reeher, professor of political science, notes that primaries typically attract engaged and ideological voters.
"With a large field, that could help the one most progressive (or socialist) candidate emerge with a plurality," Reeher says. He cautions, however, that any predictions remain highly speculative. "A lot depends on how large the field is."
