For over a year, twelve associates of the Program on the Analysis and Resolution of Conflicts (PARC), in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, participated in an extended seminar. The essays in this book represent the ideas formulated in the seminar, during which we do not only reached shared understandings of certain concepts but came to appreciate our differences. The seminar was intellectually stimulating, and we hope this book stimulates further debate among others interested in the analysis ad resolution of conflicts.
