Albrecht Diem, professor of history, contributed a chapter to “The Many Worlds of Otmar: St. Gall and European Monasticism from the 7th to the 9th Century.” The chapter, titled “Otmar on Trial,” examines the trials against Saint Otmar (d. 759) the founder of the monastery of St. Gallen, who was deposed and imprisoned for sexual misconduct.
