Bio

Mahdi is a Ph.D. student in political science at Syracuse University. His research explores democracy and democratization in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). In addition, he studies ethnic identity and political violence, with a focus on how identity shapes conflict dynamics in the region. More broadly, his interests include authoritarianism, regime change and comparative politics.
