"Rural-urban and within-rural differences in COVID-19 vaccination rates," co-authored by Professor Shannon Monnat and Ph.D. student Yue Sun, was cited in the New York Times article, "In Rural America, COVID Hits Black and Hispanic People Hardest."

In their study, Monnat and Sun found that inoculation rates were much lower in rural counties that voted more for Donald Trump, and also in rural areas with health worker shortages and with more Black residents.
