Top U.S. officials met Sunday with Ukrainian negoitiators, pushing to broker an end to Russia's war with Ukraine. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are hoping the meeting can set the stage for key talks planned for the coming week in Moscow with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

“There's been a lot of zigs and zags over the past year about this issue. People will recall that President Trump as a candidate had said he could end this war in 24 hours and we're about 11 months into his presidency  and really, I would say, still no closer to a deal,” says Brian Taylor, director of the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs.

“I think the fundamental problem remains, that Vladimir Putin wants to subjugate and control Ukraine and Ukraine wants to stay independent and sovereign and make its own political choices. So it's really hard to see a meaningful deal coming out of this,” Taylor says.
