Jiahuan Lu, associate professor of public administration and international affairs, has co-edited a new research handbook, Nonprofit Organization Management in China: Research and Practice (Routledge, 2026), with Qiang Dong, professor at the College of Humanities and Development Studies at China Agricultural University.

The volume examines nonprofit management in China through a comparative, organizational lens rather than the state-society framework common in earlier scholarship. Chapters pair global research on nonprofit management with evidence from Chinese practice, covering topics such as fundraising, financial oversight, human resources, volunteer coordination, government relations, program evaluation, cross-sector collaboration, policy advocacy, digital transformation and social enterprise. Contributors include international scholars offering both academic analysis and practical guidance for readers working in and studying China’s fast-growing nonprofit sector.

Lu’s research examines the management of public and nonprofit organizations, with particular attention to government contracting, nonprofit-government relations and nonprofit resource management. He has published more than 40 journal articles in outlets including Public Administration Review and the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, and serves as associate editor for the Journal of Philanthropy, Nonprofit Management & Leadership and Public Performance & Management Review. He joined the Maxwell faculty in 2024, after previous appointments at Rutgers University-Newark and Mississippi State University.
