Career Planning

How does a Political Science degree help me prepare for a career?

The study of political science can provide you with a variety of skills and help prepare you for a range of possible futures. Political science can serve as the core of a liberal arts education, helping you to master critical thinking, research, and writing skills. It can help you prepare for a career in law, public service, electoral politics, public policy, nonprofit advocacy, international relations and diplomacy, primary and second education, and academia, among other fields.

What can I expect to earn with a BA in Political Science?

While choosing a major and going to college is about more than preparing for a good-paying job, we realize the importance of earning a decent living, especially given the price of college tuition. According to a recent report, “ The Economic Value of College Majors,” published in 2015 by the Center on Education and the Workforce at Georgetown University, Political Science majors compare well to other social science majors when it comes to post-graduation average salaries.
