Anthropology brings a global perspective to the study of human diversity by means of in-depth research at the local level and comparative studies that explore human experience through time and across space. At Syracuse, we embrace a holistic approach
to anthropology through teaching and research in archaeological, biological, cultural, and linguistic anthropology.
The Anthropology Department is within the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. The college encourages faculty and students to become engaged in scholarship for the public good and to seek out and address solutions to past, present and future
human problems locally and globally. This objective is consistent to the central concerns of all of the subfields of anthropology.
Due to public health concerns around COVID-19, all in-person public events are postponed or canceled until further notice.
The Maxwell School stands in support of all students demanding change in the face of racism and hate speech on our campus. We are committed to making our school and our university a more inclusive and just community for all.
There is absolutely no place here for behavior or language that degrades any individual or group’s race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, disability or religious beliefs.
