Gerard and Castro conduct conflict management workshop in Jordan

Catherine Gerard and Peter Castro conducted a four-day workshop in Amman, Jordan. The workshop was funded by the Near East Foundation Olive Oil Without Borders III Project to promote reconciliation between Palestinians, Israelis, and Jordanians by strengthening economic cooperation and promoting mutual understanding in the olive sector.

Purser report on treatment of dairy farmworkers cited in NY Times

Gretchen Purser's research on labor conditions for dairy farmworkers is playing a central role in an ongoing NY State Supreme Court battle in which farmworkers are arguing for their right to organize. Purser's report, "Milked: Immigrant Dairy Farmworkers in New York State," was cited in the New York Times. 07/20/17

Purser cited in Albany Times Union article on state dairy worker injuries

The Albany Times Union article, "Two-thirds of dairy workers have been injured at least once, report finds," features Gretchen Purser's recently released report, "Milked: Dairy Farmworkers in New York," that looks at the treatment and working conditions of immigrant laborers who work in milking parlors and barns in New York State. “The rates of injury were far higher than we expected,” Purser told the Times Union. “That was stunning.” 07/11/17

Catherine Gerard and Peter Castro traveled to Belmopan, Belize to conduct three workshops with University of Belize faculty and staff. At the conclusion of the Environmental Governance and Conflict Management Workshop, participants were awarded certificates from the University of Belize Environmental Research Institute.

Sultana meets Pope Francis during Vatican workshop on water issues

Farhana Sultana, associate professor of geography, examines a multitude of social issues related to access to clean water, including health, education, environmental justice and gender equality. Due to her decades-long research into water access, Sultana was invited to speak at The Human Right to Water workshop hosted by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in Vatican City.

INSCT awarded grant to study law & policy of unmanned aerial systems

The INSCT project—Law and Policy of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles—was awarded $68,248. The project will develop a policy and legal framework that supports the use of various types of unmanned aerial systems throughout the state, while ensuring public safety, protecting civil liberties and promoting industrial growth.

Interpersonal Conflict Resolution Skills 

MAY 16 - MAY 21 (Monday - Friday 9am-5pm; Saturday 9am-12pm)

Instructor: Neil Katz  

This course enhances communication and rapport-building skills to interact more effectively and solve problems creatively. It provides a foundation in reflective listening, problem solving, assertion, and managing conflicts among needs and values. The course includes theory, demonstrations, skill practice, and critique, as well as a workplace mediation component. It is designed to have immediate and wide applicability in interpersonal and group settings.
